My Story
She/Her
I was a relatively active child growing up; I played soccer for a few years before finding my passion in swimming. However, after swimming year-round for seven years, I experienced what I now know to be burnout at the end of my sophomore year in high school. I was unsure of what to do my junior year to remain physically active, so I decided to sign up for a weightlifting class. This class, called Human Performance, was my first introduction to weight training. I was surprised by the effects that this class had on my physical and mental well-being. Physically, I felt a different form of strength from what I obtained during my time as a swimmer. Mentally, I felt more motivated and energized to test my limits every time I went to this class. It was the first time since I stopped swimming that I felt excited to exercise and to challenge myself to lift heavier weights. When the time came to decide a career for my undergraduate studies, I knew that I wanted to do something where I could remain physically active and help people do the same, which prompted me to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. My goal is to provide people with the tools to exercise safely and correctly in their daily lives, and to instill the type of joy that I get whenever I lift or perform an exercise I did not think I could do.
